Park City in Summer: The Mountain Getaway You’re Missing

Written by: Cat Iwankchuk - Director of Supplier Relations
Most people think of Park City as a winter destination—all snow and ski slopes. But honestly? I had no idea what I was missing until I spent three nights at the Park City Peaks Hotel this past summer. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.

Getting There and Settling In
Walking into the lobby, I immediately felt that cozy mountain vibe. You know that feeling when a place just gets it right? Modern enough to feel fresh, but with enough rustic touches that you actually feel you're in the mountains. My room had this incredible view that made me stop unpacking just to stare out the window for a solid five minutes.
I'll be honest—after the drive up, all I wanted to do was absolutely nothing. So that's exactly what I did. The pool situation here is pretty sweet: it's one of those indoor/outdoor deals where you can swim under the open sky but still have somewhere to go if the weather turns. And that hot tub? Game changer. I may have stayed in there longer than is socially acceptable.
For dinner, a local told me I had to try Versante Hearth + Bar right in the hotel. Those Brussels sprouts everyone raves about? Yeah, the hype is real. And their wood-fired pizza hit the spot after a long day.

Getting My Heart Rate Up
The breakfast spread the next morning was solid. Nothing fancy, but it did the job before I headed out to explore. Armed with coffee (because I'm not a monster), I decided to walk one of the trails that connect to Main Street.
Here's the thing I don't hear a lot of people talk about unless you are in the know: Park City in summer is absolutely gorgeous. Like, stop-every-ten-feet-to-take-a-photo gorgeous. The wildflowers were going crazy, and the whole walk felt like therapy. This trail deposits you right onto Main Street, which is pretty convenient when you've worked up an appetite.
The afternoon was all about embracing my inner kid. That mountain coaster? Way more intense than I expected. The alpine slide had me laughing like a kid as I flew around those curves. But the zip line—that flying eagle thing—that was the real winner. Nothing quite like soaring over everything with the wind in your face.

Slowing Down and Soaking It In
On my last full day, I wanted to dig into what makes this place tick. The Park City Museum was incredibly interesting. Learning about the mining history and then how it all transformed for the Olympics—it just makes you appreciate where you are a little more.
Later, I grabbed my water bottle and headed out for a hike, ending up at High West Saloon. If you’ve never experienced a bar designed for skiers to glide right up to, you’re truly missing out and it should be added to your bucket list stat. Even in summer, it's got this cool mountain tavern energy.
That evening, I stumbled onto a free concert happening in town. Pure luck, really. Sitting there as the sun set behind the mountains, listening to live music with a bunch of locals and other travelers—it was one of those moments that remind you why you travel in the first place.

The Real Deal
Before I checked out, they let me peek at some of the renovation plans. The rooms are getting bigger bathrooms (yay!) and some other upgrades, but they're keeping that mid-century mountain feel that works so well. The lobby's getting opened up, too, which will make it even more welcoming.
Look, I've stayed at plenty of mountain hotels that talk a big game about hospitality. The staff here actually delivers on it. They're friendly without being fake, helpful without hovering. And honestly, I didn't expect to find this much to do in Park City during summer.
If you're on the fence about a summer mountain trip, just book it. Whether you're looking to actually relax for once, get your adrenaline pumping, or just eat really good food while staring at incredible views, Park City delivers. Just don't blame me when you start planning your winter trip back before you've even left.
