How to get to Wengen

Wengen is a charming, car-free village perched in the Bernese Oberland, accessible only by train. The two closest international airports are Zurich Airport (ZRH), located approximately 83 miles away with a travel time of about 2.5 to 3 hours, and Geneva Airport (GVA), which is around 143 miles away and takes about 3.5 to 4 hours by car and train combined.

From either airport, travelers can reach Wengen by first taking a train to Interlaken Ost, then transferring to the Bernese Oberland Railway to Lauterbrunnen. From Lauterbrunnen, Wengen is a 15-minute scenic train ride uphill—cars are not permitted in the village, so the train is the only public route. Zurich offers the most frequent and direct train connections, making it the preferred airport for ease of travel. If you're traveling with a lot of luggage or as part of a group, private shuttle services to Lauterbrunnen are available and can be conveniently arranged by your Mountain Travel Expert. From there, the final leg to Wengen is made by train.

Upon arriving in the village via the cogwheel train from Lauterbrunnen, you’ll find everything conveniently within walking distance. From hotels and shops to ski lifts and restaurants, the charm of this destination lies in its effortless accessibility. Electric taxis and luggage sleds are available for a fee, providing a convenient solution for travelers with heavy bags or limited mobility. 

Public transportation in the region includes the Wengernalpbahn (WAB) train that connects Wengen to nearby Lauterbrunnen and Kleine Scheidegg with regular service, making it easy to reach neighboring ski areas like Grindelwald and Mürren. Wengen is connected to Männlichen via a gondola, and the Wengernalp Railway connects Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg and Grindelwald. Ski pass holders enjoy complimentary access to these lifts and trains within the ski area, making it easy to explore the entire Jungfrau region. Skiing in Wengen
