Best Ski Resorts to Fly to From Atlanta

As many locals know, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is a massive hub offering direct flights to major mountain towns. Park City, Aspen Snowmass, Vail and even Jackson Hole are all just a single direct flight away. Plan your logistics right, and you can leave ATL in the morning and be on the mountain by the afternoon. So we asked our Ski.com travel agents: which resorts are actually worth flying to from Atlanta for a long weekend? Here's what they said.

Bonus: Since all of these resorts are in mountain time, the two-hour time difference really works in your favor. For example, a flight that takes four hours in the air only costs you two hours on the clock. Land at lunchtime, and you still have several hours of runs before the lifts close.

Expert Tip: Skip the I-70 winter driving from Denver. Flying directly into ASE drops you right in the middle of Aspen Snowmass, and you won't need a rental car with the town's walkable streets and free shuttle system.

The Logistics

Even though Park City Mountain and Deer Valley sit side by side, they're two completely separate ski resorts with different lift tickets and different experiences. What they do share is impressive Utah powder, easy access from Salt Lake City and a prime location just minutes from Park City's charming Historic Main Street. Free public transportation makes it easy to move between the resorts, downtown, restaurants and lodging without ever needing a car.

Deer Valley Ski Resort Highlights

Deer Valley is exclusively a skier's resort (no snowboarding allowed), known for capping ticket sales to deliver uncrowded slopes. Thanks to a massive recent expansion, it's now one of the largest ski areas in North America, with tons of luxury touches, like ski valet, heated lifts with wind blockers, killer customer service and perfectly groomed slopes. There's also a great balance of terrain for every level, so everyone in your crew will be happy (as long as they're a skier).

Park City Ski Resort Highlights

Park City Mountain is all about scale. As the largest ski resort in the United States, it boasts more than 7,300 acres of terrain and over 330 trails to explore. While the mountain offers terrain for every skill level, it's especially well suited to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders, with just 8% of runs designated for beginners. One of Park City's biggest draws is its ski-in ski-out access to Historic Main Street, which makes for super convenient (and fun) lunch and après sessions.

Expert Tip: Don't assume one pass gets you into both resorts. Even though Park City and Deer Valley share a base area and free shuttle system, they're on two different multi-mountain passes — Epic for Park City, Ikon for Deer Valley — so you'll need separate lift tickets (or the right pass) for each. Plan ahead so you're not stuck buying a walk-up ticket at full price.

Ski Resort Highlights:

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is known worldwide for its deep snow (averaging 400+ inches a year) and some of the steepest inbound terrain in North America. The resort is home to a 4,139-foot continuous vertical drop — one of the largest in the country — accessed via the iconic Aerial Tram, which climbs to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain in under 10 minutes. From there, adventurous skiers can drop into the legendary Corbet's Couloir, a mandatory cliff entrance into a narrow, steep chute that's earned a reputation as one of the scariest inbound runs in the world. This is truly an expert's paradise: roughly half the mountain is rated expert terrain, with the rest split between intermediate cruisers and vast, lift-accessed backcountry-style bowls. And no visit is complete without a stop at Corbet's Cabin at the summit for world-famous waffles with a view.

Expert Tip: Decide where you're sleeping before you book your flight. Staying in Teton Village puts you steps from the tram with true ski-in ski-out convenience, but it's pricier and quieter at night. Staying in the town of Jackson (about 20-30 minutes away) is more affordable and gives you that classic Wild West saloon-and-square vibe, but you'll need to budget extra time for the daily commute to the lifts.

The Logistics:

• Flight Time: 4-hour direct seasonal flights from Atlanta to Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) via Delta
• Transfer Time: 30-40 minutes from EGE to the slopes

• Beaver Creek: Epic Pass

Vail and Beaver Creek sit about 13 miles apart, but since both are owned by Vail Resorts, one lift ticket (or your Epic Pass) gets you into both. A free shuttle runs between the two, so you could easily ski Vail in the morning and be carving runs at Beaver Creek by afternoon. The whole region benefits from consistently reliable snow, averaging 354 inches a year, so both resorts are worth working into your itinerary.

Vail Resort Highlights:

Vail Resort offers 5,317 acres of terrain with a dedicated beginner zone, plenty of cruiser-friendly intermediate runs and the legendary Back Bowls, seven expansive bowls that draw advanced and expert skiers looking to get lost in the terrain. Off the slopes, Vail leans into luxury: both base areas, Vail Village and Lionshead Village, are car-free, cobblestone enclaves packed with upscale dining, boutique shopping and a fun après scene.

Beaver Creek Resort Highlights:

Beaver Creek is the family-friendly counterpart, with dedicated beginner terrain, Family Adventure Zones and fresh chocolate chip cookies served daily each afternoon. Don't let the cozy reputation fool you, though: the resort also has beautifully groomed cruisers, playful tree glades and a handful of steep runs for anyone chasing more speed. The base villages are quieter and more polished than Vail's, making it a nice change of pace if you want a slower afternoon after a big morning on the mountain.

Expert Tip: Because the Atlanta-EGE route is seasonal (roughly December through April) and extremely popular with skiers, seats fill up fast, especially around holidays and weekends. Book your flights as early as possible to lock in the direct route, because once it's sold out, you're looking at a connection through Denver, which can eat into your limited weekend on the mountain.

• Transfer Time: 35 minutes from HDN to the base of Steamboat

Expert Tip: After a fun day on the slopes, take a short shuttle over to Strawberry Park Hot Springs for a well-deserved soak in the natural geothermal pools surrounded by snowbanks and gorgeous views.
