    Ski Alyeska

Alyeska is located just 40 miles south of the Anchorage airport (Ted Stevens Airport), providing skiers and snowboarders with convenient access once they’ve arrived in. Alyeska provides skiers and snowboarders with 73 trails spread out on more than 1,400 acres. The resort features a 60-passenger aerial tram, two high-speed quad, two fixed-grip quads and two magic carpets to ensure there’s no waiting on lift lines—not that crowds are usually a problem in Alyeska.

Averaging 669 inches of powder annually, Alyeska offers some of the world's deepest snow conditions. That said, the temperatures aren’t necessarily as cold as you might think. January is typically the coldest winter month, with averages around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but by March averages are around 32 degrees. Because Alaska experiences more daylight during the winter months than the rest of the United States—due to its proximity to the North Pole—Alyeska offers night skiing on the weekends from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The resort’s trails are well divided to accommodate a variety of skiers and riders. About 11 percent of Alyeska is designated beginner, while 52 percent is marked as intermediate and 37 percent for experts. Terrain park enthusiasts have two parks to choose from. Snowcat and heli-skiing tours are also available.

Alyeska Ski Resort located just 40 minutes from Anchorage is not only an amazing ski resort but also the jumping off point for many adventures in the Last Frontier! Alyeska is a true adventure capital! Skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, helisking just to name a few of the adventures available.

The Hotel Alyeska is nestled at the base of Alyeska Resort where the tram comes to the back door of the hotel to whisk you up to the top of the mountain and the view of 7 Glaciers!  This deluxe ski in ski out hotels has wonderful onsite amenities including full service spa, saltwater pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, many amazing restaurants and a wake up call for the Aurora Borealis!  Guests can request a wake up call if these beautiful lights come out - truly a unique experience.

Combining a trip to Anchorage along with your stay in Alyeska is something I would recommend.  Anchorage is the home to the ceremonial start of the Iditarod.  This is the 1st Saturday of March every year.  4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage is closed down for the 80 dogsleds and mushers getting ready to start the adventure of a lifetime.  It is a wonderful celebration and grilled reindeer sausage abundant.

Alaska is one of my favorite places - winter or summer.  Please let me know if I can help with any of your travel plans.

For a truly unique skiing experience, the Alyeska ski resort in Girwood Alaska is at the top of my list. Located a mere 40 miles from Anchorage, Alyeska is a family friendly ski resort with 1400 skiable acres. It has beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert terrain with 52% of its terrain weighted towards the advanced intermediate skier. I would say that overall, Alyeska is a challenging mountain to ski, but even the non skier can enjoy the tram ride. The views are beautiful, especially from the top where the 4-star Seven Glaciers restaurant is located. Located at the base of the tram is the modern 300-room Alyeska hotel. If you're interested, and you should be interested, ask the front desk to notify you during the night when the Northern lights are out. It's a site you will never forget! Aleyska is not only for the winter months either. It offers plenty of hiking and biking in the summer to round things out. Call me at ext 3692 or email me bill@ski.com and let's plan a great Alaskan adventure!
