Yes. It’s a real thing.
According to Wikipedia, it’s…”a sport based on golf but played over snow (or ice) instead of grass. The “greens” are called “whites” and have a maintained snow or ice surface.”
It’s also the perfect spring activity for mountain lovers/outdoor enthusiasts, combining the last reserves of winter’s bounty with an activity that symbolizes summer is on it’s way, i.e. golf. We have it on good authority that a good chunk of skiers and snowboarders are avid golfers.
In fact, this hybrid activity is so popular that the Golf Channel has covered it in years past. Watch below.

Mt. Bachelor is also hosting its 23rd annual Snow Golf Tournament this Sunday, April 23. This event features cocktails provided by Buffalo Trace Bourbon, beer provided by Cascade Lakes Brewing Co., a barbecue lunch and free ski/golf swag, prizes and more! Ski golfers will challenge themselves on the nine-hole course off the Pine Marten lift.
Originally from the icy trails of New Jersey, I moved West to pursue powder and a career in writing and editing. Now in Aspen, Colo. and working for Ski.com managing the website and blog content, I couldn't be happier. You'll find me skiing at Aspen Mountain or Aspen Highlands in the winter and mountain biking at Snowmass in the summer.
