To begin, not all Ikon Passes are created equally. The Ikon Pass, Ikon Base Pass, and Ikon Session Pass have different levels of benefits that apply to different ski resorts and mountain destinations at different times. So, figuring out which applies to you and when is paramount to taking advantage of your pass.

Alterra Mountain Company continues to expand its pass offerings to include some of the best skiing in the world via its Ikon, Ikon Base, and Ikon Session passes. Obviously, the full Ikon Pass includes more expansive access when compared to its more affordable counterparts. That said, the Ikon Base also offers some amazing destinations, albeit with blackout dates*.

Here’s the general breakdown… (Those renewing their Ikon Pass are granted access to discounted, season pass renewal rates)  

$1,079 – IKON PASS – Unlimited access to 14 mountain resorts, unlimited 7-day access at 35 mountain resorts across the globe. 

$969 – IKON BASE PASS PLUS – Unlimited access to 13 mountain resorts, 5-day access at 36 mountain resorts (includes Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Aspen Snowmass) across the globe with blackout dates*.

$769 – IKON BASE PASS – Unlimited access to 13 mountain resorts and 5-day access at 30 mountain resorts across the globe with blackout dates*.

IKON SESSION PASSESNEW options for 2022/23; purchase 2, 3, or 4-day Session Passes for access to 37 destinations with blackout dates.

When it comes to saving money, it’s hard to beat the Ikon Pass discounts on everything from food and beverage to retail and ski school. Full Ikon Pass holders can get 15% off retail and dining at select locations while Ikon Base Pass holders get 10%.


When you buy an adult Ikon Pass or Ikon Base Pass, save up to $200 total ($100 each) on the purchase of two child base passes ($199). The Child Ikon Pass for ages 5-12 has been reduced to $239 for the 2022/23 winter season.

First Tracks

“Ikon Pass First Tracks is available one designated morning per month in January, February, and March 2022 at each participating destination during the 21/22 winter season. Designated days may vary by destination. Ikon Pass First Tracks applies to the 21/22 Ikon Pass, Ikon Base Pass, Ikon Base Plus Pass and Ikon Session Pass 4-Day, based on pass access. First Tracks dates for the 22/23 season will be announced at a later date.”

It’s no secret that window rate lift tickets have gotten a little steep lately. Thankfully, Ikon Pass holders get friends and family discounts of up to 25% off the window rate for 10 lift tickets with the Ikon Pass, and 8 lift tickets on the Ikon Base Passes at select Ikon Pass destinations during the 22/23 season.

Nurses, College, and Military Discounts

From front-line workers to those who serve our country in the armed forces, The Ikon Pass offers discounts for three key demographics: Military, College, and Nurses. Active military, front-line healthcare workers, and those attending college can access discounted price levels. Please ask a Mountain Travel Expert about current rates.

POW Membership

It’s admirable whenever a product and the community it serves get behind a common, humanitarian cause. Ikon Pass holders with a penchant for climate action will be granted a Protect Our Winters membership ($50 value) with their purchase. Membership in POW includes 20% off merchandise, a monthly newsletter, and a subscription to the biweekly email blast “The Line.”


Adventure Assurance comes free this year with every 22/23 Ikon Pass. Designed to alleviate uncertainty while providing flexibility for Ikon Pass holders, Adventure Assurance gives pass holders credits in the case of COVID-related closures and the option to defer the purchase price of an unused pass by December 8, no questions asked.

Pass Deferral: “Should a 22/23 Ikon Pass holder decide not to use their pass after purchase, for any reason, they may elect to defer their pass to receive a full credit for the purchase price of their unused 22/23 Ikon Pass to be used toward the purchase of a 23/24 Ikon Pass. The passholder must defer their pass by 12/8/22 to receive a full credit. Subject to applicable terms and conditions.

Closure Credits: “ If there is an eligible Covid-related closure at your selected North American Ikon Pass destination from December 17, 2022 – March 5, 2023, Ikon Pass holders will receive a proportional credit toward the purchase of a 23/24 Ikon Pass based on the percentage of days closed. Subject to applicable terms and conditions.”
