Editorial note: This blog post is part of a series showcasing our sweepstakes winners’ experiences on their grand prize ski trips. If you’re wondering if real skiers win our trip giveaways, here’s your answer!

Back in December 2014, we asked you to resolve to visit “the last great ski town in Colorado,” Crested Butte. Thousands of skiers posted their 2015 Crested Butte resolutions for a chance to win five nights’ lodging and six days of skiing at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. We drew a sweepstakes winner, and Robert Young of Littleton, Colorado made his Crested Butte resolution a reality this last March. Here’s his account of his Crested Butte prize package, which included the following experiences:

  • five nights’ lodging at the Grand Lodge
  • six days of skiing for two people at Crested Butte Mountain Resort
  • a Snowcat Driving Experience
  • passes to the Adventure Park at Mt. Crested Butte

The Youngs’ Crested Butte ski vacation

Robert and his wife had heard about Crested Butte’s summer wildflowers and hiking but had never visited the resort. They cashed in their grand prize ski trip in March 2015 and hit the skiing conditions just right with new snow three out of five days. Temperatures warmed up in the afternoons, letting these two après ski in the sunshine and soak in the incredible views of the Elk Mountain Range and Mt. Crested Butte.

“I would recommend Crested Butte to any type of skier as well as non-skiers,” Robert said. “There’s plenty to do like shopping and amazing sight-seeing. And if you’re a photographer, Crested Butte is a must-visit destination.”

The Grand Lodge in Crested Butte

Part of Robert’s prize package was a five-night stay at the Grand Lodge, a ski in, ski out condo property at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. He and his wife gave the lodge rave reviews and commented about the friendly staff.

“Everyone at the Grand Lodge was very helpful, and the housekeeping went above and beyond to take care of our needs.” Robert said.

Robert thinks where you stay is extremely important in making any vacation great, and it sounds like The Grand Lodge had the right touch.

“This was one of the best vacations we’ve had (and not just because it was free!),” Robert said. “Having the kind of people who make sure that your stay is the best is the key to vacationing anywhere. Crested Butte rolled out the red carpet, not just for us but for everyone who came into the Grand Lodge.”

The Youngs’ Crested Butte trip highlights

When we asked Robert about the favorite parts of his vacation, he said, “the Snowcat experience was at the top of the list of highlights, but I would say the town of Crested Butte was a hit as well.”

The Youngs took the free shuttle into town each day and enjoyed a few meals, which he described as “to die for.”

“We also took the tour of the rum distillery (Montanya) and tried some amazing rums, for free!”

Ski.com’s trip giveaways

We promise that we didn’t ask Robert to comment about our trip giveaways in particular, but his glowing words made us blush…

“I also have to throw kudos out to Ski.com and your staff for not only keeping us skiers up to date with the skiing and vacation destinations around the world, but for giving your followers the chances to win some amazing ski trip prize packages as well.”

Aw shucks! Robert, thank you for sharing your Crested Butte experience with us.
