Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon is famous for delivering impressive snow, and Solitude lives up to that reputation with an average of 500 inches of snowfall each year. For skiers and riders chasing deep powder and consistent conditions, Solitude earns its name, not just for the snow, but for peaceful slopes that let you enjoy it long after a storm has passed.
Through the Sol-Bright ticket, Solitude connects seamlessly with neighboring Brighton, expanding your terrain and giving you access to a wider range of runs. But Solitude isn’t just about lift-served skiing. Big Cottonwood Canyon is a hub for winter adventure, offering cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and easy access to backcountry terrain.
It’s the kind of place where powder lingers and a great day on the mountain often stretches beyond the storm that made it possible. The resort spans 1,200 acres across a mix of wide-open bowls, steep chutes and perfectly pitched groomers.
Honeycomb Canyon is one of the resort's crown jewels with an expert zone home to cliff bands, tight chutes and consistently deep powder that rival anything in the Cottonwood Canyons. Experts will also enjoy Headwall Forest and Evergreen zones, accessed via the top of Summit Express and challenge-seekers will revel in the double-black diamond glades off the top of the Powderhorn chairlift. Or advanced skiers and riders can tackle Honeycomb Canyon's Woodlawn, the resort's longest decent at 3.5 miles.
But Solitude isn't just for experts. The frontside is packed with intermediate tree runs and cruising boulevards.
For something extra on your ski vacation, consider a private tour with a Solitude ski guide. This three-hour tour will take you all over the mountain to find hidden stashes and playful features to explore. This program is for advanced skiers or snowboarders 14 years or older.
Although Solitude is known as a powder hound's haven — thanks to its 500 annual inches — it offers beginner skiers about 20% of its terrain. Solitude will please beginner skiers looking to experience the beauty and incredible snow conditions of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. Less experienced beginners and first-timers will especially appreciate the Link chairlift and the gentle, green runs that surround it.
When beginners feel ready to explore more of the mountain, they have two core areas to explore: the cluster of trails off the Moonbeam Express or the variety of rolling blue runs off Sunrise chairlift.
Solitude is fun for the whole family. Not only is the ski school top-notch, there are plenty of activities off the slopes. Families can enjoy a variety of activities such as exploring pristine Nordic and snowshoe trails or taking a scenic lift ride. The town is filled with history and is a fun learning vacation for the whole squad. On select days throughout winter, Solitude Ski Patrol brings out the avalanche dogs. Here, the ski patrol teaches kids about snow safety while allowing everyone to interact with their four-legged friends.
