While restrictions are starting to ease in some select states across the country, the battle is far from over and we all need to do our best to keep a rebound from happening. Which means continuing to practice social distancing, wearing masks in highly trafficked areas, and washing hands regularly. So keep it close to home this weekend with an authentic Chicago Dog in hand, the perfect compliment to the freewheeling ski comedy, Hot Dog The Movie.

To keep the end of ski season vibes flowing freely, we’ve hopped in the Ski.com time machine and returned with a mountain artifact that hearkens back to the golden age of skiing. It was the 70’s and people were letting lose, boundaries were being pushed, and ski style was becoming an exercise in creativity, no longer just speed. It was at this specific point in time that a movie debuted about a group of rowdy competitive “hot doggers” as each personality vies for the for the world championship crown in Squaw Valley, California. Rivalries with stuck up Austrians, steamy off-mountain romances, and a “Chinese Downhill,” this ski classic is a reminder that we should never take ourselves too seriously as skiers.
The Authentic Chicago Dog Recipe
Ingredients:
- All beef, Vienna Firedogs
- Poppy seed hot dog buns
- Tomatoes (sliced)
- Vienna Yellow Mustard
- Vienna Green Relish
- Vienna Sport Peppers
- Celery Salt
- Cracked Black Pepper
Cooking:
- Pour water into a large cooking pot until half full.
- Bring water to a boil before decreasing heat and bringing to a slight simmer (do not cook the hot dogs in boiling water.
- Place desired number of hot dogs into water and cook uncovered for 20 minutes.
*Do not steam the buns until the hot dogs have cooked for 20 minutes.
- Fill a small pot 1/4 full of water, cover with aluminum foil and poke small holes to allow steam to cook the buns
- Place pot on medium heat until steam begins rising
- Place hot dog buns one at a time atop aluminum foil.
- Allow buns to steam for 2-3 minutes each
- Let buns cool before positioning the dog with ends up
- Place condiments on top of the hot dog in the following order: Yellow mustard, relish, onion, tomato slices, pickle spear, sport peppers, salt, and cracked black pepper
