You’ve probably been asking the same question that has been on our minds: is it snowing in the Alps? Yes! Ski resorts across the Alps received their first major snow storm of the season. Flakes started to fall early Wednesday morning in the northeastern Alps, and the storm quickly tracked across Europe, passing through Switzerland and dumping huge totals on Austria.

Ski resorts in France received the first snow with Tignes, Chamonix, Courchevel and Avoriaz reporting winter-like conditions on Wednesday, even at lower elevations. The storm moved through Switzerland and the Northern Italian Alps; Zermatt and Cervinia received some nice accumulation that will help conditions on the glacier, which is currently open for skiing.

The heaviest accumulations have been recorded at Austrian ski resorts. Sölden and St. Anton appeared to have multiple feet of snow on the ground. Kitzbuhel also received significant snowfall, priming the ski resort for a great opening day on Oct. 25!
