Perfect storm on Powder Highway: new snow, cheap gas + strong U.S. $

For U.S. residents, the time is nigh to make that trip to interior British Columbia’s snow-magnet region, the Powder Highway. It seems the perfect combination of a lot of new snow, a beneficial exchange rate and low oil prices have aligned to make it a great time to go on a ski trip to Canada.

Within the last week, several Powder Highway ski resorts have seen up to three feet of new snow and more is in the forecast for the next 10 days. Whitewater and Kicking Horse came out as the snowfall leaders with more than 36 inches (92 centimeters). Revelstoke received 29 inches (73 centimeters). Fernie saw 13 inches (34 centimeters), while Red Mountain and Kimberley received 9 inches (23 centimeters).

Falling oil prices in both Canada and the U.S. will help you save on gas (if you’re road tripping or renting a car) and could affect airfare prices, too. Currently, the currency exchange rate for U.S. travelers is also favorable, as 80 cents gets you $1 Canadian.
