Margaritaville in South Lake Tahoe: Bringing the Beach Vibe to the Mountains

South Lake Tahoe, known for its access to resorts such as Heavenly, Kirkwood and Sierra Tahoe, offers the perfect environment for those who look for stunning views and world-class ski terrain. The area is iconic for year-round fun and outdoor adventures for all ski levels and interests.

Recently, South Lake Tahoe just got a whole lot more laid-back and, dare we say, a tad more fun with the opening of Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe on December 14, 2023. It’s the latest property in the Margaritaville portfolio and their first foray into a ski destination. But what makes this place stand out, besides being nestled in the lovely Sierra Nevada mountains with a backdrop of Lake Tahoe? Well, it’s all about bringing that island vibe into the mountain latitude.

TROPICAL VIBES IN AN ALPINE SETTING

From the moment you enter the lobby, the resort’s vibrant decor, tropical plants and laid-back atmosphere transport you straight to the beach, regardless of the season. It’s a unique juxtaposition that allows guests to enjoy the best of both worlds: the relaxed feel of a tropical vacation and the beauty and excitement of the mountains.

The iconic flip-flop statue that is emblematic of each Margaritaville property stands tall in the bright and cheery lobby. The ceiling is filled with skylights, allowing you to embrace the Tahoe sun while lounging in the lobby. Location? Perfect. It’s smack-dab in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, meaning you’re a stone’s throw away from Heavenly Mountain Gondola, the new Tahoe Blue Event Center, and of course, the deep blue sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe.

MORE THAN JUST AN EPIC LOCATION

The resort has 399 well-appointed suites, each offering comfort and plenty of room to spread out. The design mirrors the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe, with room interiors accented by vibrant splashes of green, turquoise, navy, and emerald, inspired by the colors of the lake and surrounding forest. These expansive suites, starting at 599 square feet, are thoughtfully equipped with separate bedrooms and living areas, dining tables, wet bars, and, in some cases, fireplaces, setting the stage for a deeply relaxing ski vacation. The resort goes above and beyond by offering pet-friendly rooms so you don’t have to leave your furry friend behind! I found the rooms to be incredibly sound-proof and we did not hear our neighbors at all, adding to the ambiance of a relaxing ski vacation.

With five unique dining spots, you’ll never have to wander far to find some good grub after a long day on the lake or the slopes. The LandShark Bar offers a fully island-inspired menu or Come Monday Cafe offers the perfect opportunity to grab some snacks or a breakfast sandwich for a day on the mountain.  And for those special nights, JWB Prime Steak and Seafood offers up a fine dining experience that’s hard to beat. I loved posting up at the Island Chill bar in the lobby after a day on the mountain. They have comfortable seating throughout the lobby and it’s easy to kickback and people watch. What was my favorite part you ask? It’s the blender bikes! They have a super fun setup where you can blend your margarita on a stationary exercise bike. Work for your cocktail, but do it the FUN way.

ADVENTURE AT YOUR DOORSTEP

The property may give you front-door access to all the fun Lake Tahoe has to offer, but it’s easy to hang back and relax at the resort. They have a killer pool, hot tub and workout room with French doors that open up during the summer.

Hiking, biking, zip-lining, boating and chilling on the shores of Lake Tahoe are the norm all summer long. Margaritaville’s location ensures that adventure is always close, making it an ideal base for those looking to experience everything South Lake Tahoe has to offer.

A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

What sets Margaritaville apart is its ability to blend the laid-back, fun-loving beach culture with the adventurous spirit of Lake Tahoe. It’s a place where you can sip on a margarita by the pool with views of snow-capped peaks in the distance, a testament to the resort’s unique charm.

Whether you’re a beach aficionado yearning for a tropical escape or an outdoor adventurer looking for a mountain getaway, Margaritaville in South Lake Tahoe offers the best of both worlds. It’s a destination that promises an unforgettable experience, making it a perfect choice for those seeking to bring the beach vibes to the mountains.
