A Look Back at the 17/18 Ski Season

It may be hard to believe that this year’s ski season is coming to an end, but every closing day marks another year of new memories in the mountains—and that’s something to celebrate and reflect on.

Here are a few of our favorite memories from 2017/2018.

Too Much Snow? Never:

With many Alpine ski resorts enjoying three times their normal snowfall, this was the year to make a ski trip to Europe happen. Psst. It’s not too late for spring skiing or summer glacier skiing, either. In the month of December and January, Tignes, France reported 552 cm (217 in.), which is almost 400 cm (160 in.) more than the past five years’ average. Resorts were also reporting that it’s been 30 years since they’ve seen this level of snowfall. Dang!

Powder Days, Sushi & Sapporo’s = 2018 Japan Guided Trip:

This January (and early February), we took two group of skiers on a guided trip to Hokkaido, Japan which is historically one of the snowiest ski destinations on earth. During our two-week 2018 Guided Japan Trip, we saw 110 inches fall, and resorts were reporting 35 feet of snow for the 2017-18 season. Not only was the snowfall stellar, but the soul-satisfying ramen, “oishi” (tasty) sushi and cold Sapporo Classics were the icing on the cake.

Revelstoke’s 10-Year Record Breaking Season:

If you had trouble finding powder in North America this year, you must not have made it to Revelstoke, B.C. British Columbia’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort, located along the famed Powder Highway, had a 10-year record-breaking winter for snowfall. Since the start of 2018, Revelstoke was hammered by a series of storms, delivering 11+ feet of snow in the month of January. Mother Nature didn’t stop there ending with a total of 420.5″ of snowfall for the season.
