3-Day Interlodge Ends With Country Club Powder At Snowbird/Alta [Photos]

It’s been quite the week for the ski resorts of Little Cottonwood Canyon. What started as an overperforming winter storm system ultimately left a historic mark Alta and Snowbird after both areas were forced to place an unprecedented 60-hour “Interlodge” on all the residents and guests staying within the canyon. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, “Interlodge Precautions” are unique to Snowbird and Alta and they go into effect when avalanche danger within the canyon walls makes it dangerous for people to travel between buildings. Which makes sense when you see 93″ of snow in 7 days!

As a result, everyone stayed in their rooms until the avalanche danger subsided… two and a half days later. For powderhounds, Interlodge is one of the ultimate experiences and as luck would have it, the road up the canyon remained closed yesterday while the Alta and Snowbird ski patrols were able to secure enough slopes to open up for what locals affectionately refer to as a “Country Club Powder Day.” The shots from both the isolation and the once-in-a-lifetime powder day yesterday are something to behold. Interlodge isn’t for everyone but when it works out like this, all the waiting is worth the once-in-a-lifetime payout.
