Today is the first day of fall, but it feels more like winter in much of the West. Early snow has fallen on multiple resorts in the past week, including Crested Butte (pictured above), Telluride, Jackson Hole and Summit County. In fact, according to an IM I received yesterday while writing this, "It's dumping at Copper Mountain right now!" This early snow isn't limited to the high country, as even Denver received some flurries yesterday - ironically, on the last day of summer.

In addition to creating beautiful vistas of white mixed with vibrant fall colors, this early-season snow is creating the base needed for fantastic early conditions and, possibly, early openings.
