For those of you who grew up in snowy parts of the world, do you remember that feeling of anticipation you had when there was a big snowstorm in the forecast? Even the smallest chance school was going to be canceled was enough to elicit the most genuine feeling of anticipation known to man. As adults, because we are who we are and like what we like, we still get that same feeling of giddiness when there's a big snowstorm.
It's kind of amazing how skiing and riding brings us back to our youths. On Sunday I saw a man in his 40s walking alone down the road from the mountain en route to his condo. Upon summiting a hill, he laid his snowboard on the snowy street, sat down on it and paddled with his hands the 350 or so yards to the bottom of the hill - all while sporting a childish grin and, I'm sure, an internal giggle.
Over the weekend, many of us had that childish feeling we so very much crave. A huge storm came in from the Pacific nailing resorts in the West, just as the East was dealing with a storm of their own. Here are some 48-hour totals from Saturday and Sunday: 44" at Snowbird, UT and Squaw Valley, CA; 31" at Crested Butte, CO; 28" in Park City, UT; 22" in Jackson Hole, WY; 17" in Killington, VT.
The snow is falling, there are lots of lodging and lift ticket deals to be had and air is, in many cases, less expensive than it has been in years. The 2009/2010 ski season is setting itself up nicely to be one for the record books. Make sure you take advantage! Check out some of the specials below and be sure to browse the special deals page of Ski.com. If you have any questions just call one of our Mountain Vacation Specialists at 800-299-0656. They're the best in the business and can answer even your most difficult questions. Ask them about our new sale to Crested Butte where we're giving away one free airline ticket for every airline ticket purchased!
Lastly, we would like to say congratulations to L. Rawson in Massachusetts and J. Swanson in Illinois. They both were picked from drawings held at the Chicago Ski Expo and Boston Ski Expo and won trips to Breckenridge, Colorado that include three nights at the Great Divide Lodge and two, two-day lift tickets. We hope you have a great time!
