    About Crested Butte

A Crested Butte ski vacation is like no other, which is why it attracts a certain kind of ski vacationer; someone who is willing to travel further, go deeper and ski harder; someone looking for a unique, beautiful experience, not necessarily a convenient break from the “real world.” Crested Butte may lack the convenience of Colorado’s I-70 resorts, but it makes up for it with its spunky individualism, which is how it’s retained its acclaim as “the last great Colorado ski town.”

The aesthetics of this place—the rugged, jutting and beautiful Mt. Crested Butte (the sharp peak to looker’s right of the ski area), quaint Victorian town and spectacular surrounding mountains—are enough to warrant a Crested Butte ski vacation. The smaller details, like dining, lodging and especially the unique ski terrain also provide special experiences to make a Crested Butte ski vacation truly one-of-a-kind. If you’re looking for some good stories and some friendly advice there are no better locals to mingle with.

    Skiing Crested Butte

There's nothing quite like Crested Butte skiing. While it’s known for its technical, steep “extreme” skiing, the vast majority of Crested Butte’s terrain is intermediate to advanced intermediate. The top half of Mt. Crested Butte is renowned as the ski area's more challenging section, while the bottom half levels out to ideal beginner and intermediate skiing. Few resorts can boast such world-class, varied terrain. The frontside of the mountain, specifically, the trails off of the Red Lady Express, offer incredible, wide-open and relatively uncrowded beginner skiing. Intermediate skiers can enjoy quick laps off of Prospect and Gold Link Lift; while more advanced intermediates have tons of trail options off of Paradise and East River Express Lifts. Expert skiers can get their “extreme” on off the North Face Lift, Spellbound Bowl, Third Bowl and gate-accessed Teocali Bowl.

Crested Butte is a resort for all seasons

    Varied Area

Great variation at a medium sized area. Tons of groomed trails, just as many steep double black chutes and bowls. Everyone can find terrain they like. Not a huge area. You find yourself at the bottom often, which is good for families and groups with varied abilities. Lots of base village accommodations, as well as in town lodges served by buses. Great selection of restaurants in the town.

We had a great time! Crested Butte is my new favorite ski town in Colorado. We’ve skied Steamboat, Breckinridge, Keystone, Wolf Creek, Monarch, and Durango and of them all we like Crested Butte the best. The mountain service staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurants were great and shop keepers were so friendly and natural. We plan to make CB our annual ski vacation spot in the future.

    A less busy Colorado destination!!

Crested Butte is a beautiful and out of the way destination which helps to keep the crowds down, unlike other colorado destinations that are easily accessible for everyone to ski. We loved the design of the runs. Blues and greens in the middle, all the blacks to the sides and higher up. For those of us who ski blues, there is no chance of ending up on a black by accident! We stayed at Gateway, ski in /ski out condo near Peach Tree lift. Love it!!!!! The condo was wonderful, comfortable and convenient. We were able to easily go back for lunch and a break. They also run shuttle buses around the condo complexs and into twn. oh and the reason we ended up skiing there this year was our 4 day epic pass was for Keystone and Crested Butte. We got to ski them both!

    Great place, great people

Our visit to Crested Butte Jan31 2019 thru Feb 6, 2019 was great. We'd never been to the area before and didn't know what to expect. All of the services we received were top notch. Additionally, I was injured on my first day of skiing and the ski patrol staff, and mountain staff were so helpful and kind. The bus shuttle services are great and very convenient. I made my husband promise that we would come back to Crested Butte so I can ski a whole week next year.

the skiing was great and our stay at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square was the best place to stay

Skiing was great lots of greens and blues and no lift lines.... dining was good also .... New place the Divvy was excellent !! we ate dinner there twice.....

    Great Getaway

Beautiful, clean, refreshing, peaceful and safe! Absolutely incredible food! Great shopping. Loved shuttle to town from Elevation. People very friendly everywhere. We will go back. Definitely want to go dog sledding next time.

    Great Skiing

Despite the lack of snowfall, the conditions on the mountain were awesome. It was good powder all over the mountain. We loved the layout of the runs and there were restaurants on the mountain in which to eat.

    Four days at Crested Butte

We spent four days at Crested Butte in early February during a bad snow year. Despite the double blacks at the top of the mountain not being open, the lower slopes were very enjoyable with grooming where appropriate and the bumps left alone.I hope to return with better snow coverage and ski Spellbound and Funnel.

    Where is the staff?

The entire resort was like a ghost town. It seems they have given up on the 2018 winter season. We had 8" of snow two days prior to arrival, yet half of the mountain remained closed. (Other area resorts were mostly open.) No advanced terrain was accessible. We decided to transfer to another resort after two days.

I have taken my family to Crested Butte Many times, and in all seasons. We enjoy its abundant green and blue groomed trails as well as its more advanced longer trails. Crested Butte is considered an adventure ski destination and is famous for the extreme terrain off the North Face and Headwall. Crested Butte has many diverse and distinctive bars, restaurants, shopping and nightlife venues. My family also loves Crested Butte in the summer for the hiking, jeeping, amazing wildflowers and of course for the spectacular fall colors too. Call me at ext 3692 today and let's discuss a package to Crested Butte. You can also email me at bill@ski.com.
