Colorado Ski Season Kicks Off With Powder!

It’s still snowing in Colorado and I’m coming to you from the front lines, ladies and gents. I am literally stuck here in my condo in Aspen after miserable road conditions discouraged me from wanting to drive anywhere. We’re in full winter storm mode with whiteout blizzard conditions that have closed the airport, parts of I-70 and made it nearly impossible to navigate the three short miles I have to go into downtown Aspen. I pulled out onto Highway 82 to find traffic backed up past the Airport Business Center and decided my morning yoga class could wait until things (hopefully) clear up this afternoon.

That’s good news, however, for skiers. Loveland Ski Area opened last weekend and they are reporting a 45” base already, with 22 inches of white stuff in the last 24 hours alone and powder/packed powder conditions. Arapahoe Basin is also open and received a foot of fresh in the last 24 hours and powder conditions. Expect to find only a few trails and one lift at each area with promise for more terrain opening soon.

Most of us are waiting for the Big Ones to open. Here’s the lowdown on when the lifts will start running at Colorado’s top resorts:

Aspen/Snowmass: November 23

Aspen Highlands/Buttermilk: December 1

Breckenridge: November 10

Copper: November 3

Crested Butte: November 18

Keystone: November 3 (Early opening!)

Telluride: November 22

Vail: November 17

Happy Snow!
