Yes. It’s a real thing.

According to Wikipedia, it’s…”a sport based on golf but played over snow (or ice) instead of grass. The “greens” are called “whites” and have a maintained snow or ice surface.”

It’s also the perfect spring activity for mountain lovers/outdoor enthusiasts, combining the last reserves of winter’s bounty with an activity that symbolizes summer is on it’s way, i.e. golf. We have it on good authority that a good chunk of skiers and snowboarders are avid golfers.

Snow Golf Tournaments

Squaw Valley discovered this commonality decades ago and are celebrating their 34th Snow Golf tournament tomorrow, Saturday, April 22. This nine-hole course commences at the top of Summit Express Chair and winds down the mountain to the bottom of the Alpine Bowl Chair.

Mt. Bachelor is also hosting its 23rd annual Snow Golf Tournament this Sunday, April 23. This event features cocktails provided by Buffalo Trace Bourbon, beer provided by Cascade Lakes Brewing Co., a barbecue lunch and free ski/golf swag, prizes and more! Ski golfers will challenge themselves on the nine-hole course off the Pine Marten lift.
