Ever since my grandparents learned to ski at Alta in 1939—the year the resort’s first chairlift was installed—skiing has been passed down from generation to generation in my family and, like many ski families, has become a large part of what binds us. Thus, it was a quite a treat when three generations of our brood met in Beaver Creek for a weekend-long ski vacation last month. With ages ranging from four to 64 years old, we needed spacious, conveniently placed lodging to have any chance of keeping everyone happy. Beaver Creek Landing turned out to be the perfect home away from home for our multi-generational family ski vacation, thanks to ski in ski out access and family-friendly amenities, like heated underground garage parking, an in-unit washer and dryer and foosball in the lobby.

Beaver Creek Landing: The perfect ski in, ski out lodging

Located in the serene Beaver Creek village of Bachelor Gulch, the well-appointed Beaver Creek Landing had everything we needed to stay and play in comfort, including a gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances, ample seating around the dining table and en suite baths in each of the three bedrooms. In fact, the spacious, light-filled master bath featured a jetted tub and a dual-headed shower. The beauty of Beaver Creek Landing is that everyone from kids to grandparents had an array of activities at their fingertips, as well as a cozy home base where we could come together to relax, share meals and swap stories of the day’s adventures.

After a family breakfast with views of a brilliant sunrise, my parents skied from Beaver Creek Landing to the Lower Beaver Creek Mountain Express lift, which is just a few yards away, and we didn’t see them again until they skied right back up to the condo after the lifts stopped running for the day. While they kept busy skiing everything from the bumps on Grouse Mountain to the great groomers spanning the resort, my sister and her husband hopped on Beaver Creek’s complimentary door-to-door shuttle to take their two oldest kids cross-country skiing at McCoy Park Nordic Center.

McCoy Park Nordic Center at Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek’s mid-mountain McCoy Park Nordic Center offers more than 32 kilometers of beginner through advanced cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, and great views of three mountain ranges from 9,800 feet. To access the park, guests ride up-and down-the Strawberry Park lift (chair 12). The kids loved downloading on the lift, a rare experience! McCoy Park Nordic Center makes getting on the trails easy, thanks to onsite gear rentals, as well as lessons and tours. The Candy Cabin, Beaver Creek’s new on-mountain candy shop offers the chance to stop for treats on your way to McCoy Park.

Family-friendly amenities at Beaver Creek Landing

While my family explored Beaver Creek’s downhill and cross-country ski trails, I took a day off from the slopes to spend time with my four-year-old niece, who only had eyes for the heated, outdoor swimming pool. Even she loved Beaver Creek Landing’s slopeside setting, as she could watch her grandparents get on the lift and ski down the slopes from the comfort of the living room and private balcony.

That night, we convened at the condo for dinner followed by a long soak under the stars in the shared outdoor hot tubs. Afterward we cozied up to play board games and watch a movie on the large flatscreen TV beside the gas fireplace, the perfect conclusion to an exciting day.

The following morning my family headed home to Denver and I enjoyed bluebird conditions while cruising Beaver Creek. That afternoon I skied to the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek’s Allegria Spa to take advantage of my pass to the award-winning spa’s outdoor slopeside hot tubs, as well as saunas, steam rooms and world-class fitness facilities. The complimentary spa passes are just another perk for guests staying at Beaver Creek Landing!
