Many Western U.S. resorts are about to receive—or in the midst of—the most bountiful series of storms of the ski season, thus far. This means multiple feet of snow for many regions. We’re talking up to 27 inches in a 24-hour period, and we’re looking at you California. Colorado resorts could see upwards of 40-plus inches of new snow by the weekend. In addition, Japan is also mid-snowstorm. Whether you’re heading to the East or West, we can all agree that there’s no better way to start off the New Year than gliding down a powder-covered mountain.

Read on to see who’s received snow so far and what this week’s forecast will bring.

California resorts are getting slammed

There will be a slight decrease Thursday and Friday with additional snow capping at eight inches around Mammoth. When more dense snow clouds move in Saturday, we potentially could see between 15 and 27 inches in a 24-hour period.
