Need some spring skiing advice
I'm hoping someone can give me some good advice on late-ish spring skiing.  We usually go with Winter Park CO for our Spring Break the last week of March.  Usually its starting to slush up by the time we leave, and everybody's talking about packing it up for another year.

This year our Spring Breaks got bumped back a week so I'm looking at first week of April.  From my times at Winter Park the last couple of years, I think thats too close to the edge.  We've got kids 8 & 10, so Wolf Creek or Mt Bachelor would be too extreme.  I've heard Mammoth goes late, but I don't want to deal with the LA crowd.  And a 12 hour flight to Whistler just ain't gonna happen.

I would greatly appreciate any advice, info, tips or whatnot on how central Colorado does in early April.  I've heard that the Summit goes until mid-April, but I'm not solid on how good that is.  Obviously A-basin would be a go, but you want some variety, y'know?

Thanks in advance,
dirkman

Re: Need some spring skiing advice
Our spring break has always been the first full week of April and we have skied all over the Rockies without a problem; in fact April is actually my favorite time to ski in the Rockies. It really comes down to the weather during the week your there. Some of our trips have been cold and deep snow and others have been hot (80 degrees +) and lots of corn and soft snow or a couple days of each. We always had good snow at Summit County. With 4 resorts at high elevations you can always find good snow (Breck & A-Basin are usually still open in June) late into the spring. Utah is a good choice with a lot of resorts near SLC. With all the snow this year I would guess Vail to be open until May 1st. It never hurts to call each resort just to make sure though.

why would mt bachelor be too extreme for an 8 or 10 year old? Mt Bachelor has great spring skiing. There is plenty of mellow terrain for everyone.

why am i posting this? As a true Oregonian, I'm not supposed to tell anyone how great Oregon is...

Re: Need some spring skiing advice

Hi John,

Thanks for posting on our forum. It has been previously mentioned, but it's worth saying again; the snow this year is incredible and should set things up for a very long late season. Ski.com was actually quoted in a recent story in the Associated Press about our favorite places for spring skiing.  They are:

Aspen/Snowmass

Banff

Squaw Valley

Whistler

Breckenridge

I suggest just giving us a call.  We have some amazing late-season deals, including a promotion where we pay your tax in Whistler, and others where we give food/drink vouchers in Beaver Creek and Aspen.  Check out our deals page, too.

As far as Mammoth goes, dont worry about the L.A. clowns. Once the beach weather hits, they stay away from skiing. Spring skiing in Mammoth is  a must do for all skiers. It ranks right up there with Utah/Colorado powder as far as Joy of skiing are concerned.  Hve a great trip whatever you decide!
