University Project

Hi,

I am a 4th year design student from Napier University in Edinburgh, Scotland. We are currently doing a project for Vango, I have to design a rucksack for use when skiing or doing other winter sports. I need some information for my background research. Can you tell me what kind of things (equipment or whatever) you would carry when skiing and any other tips or comments you may have? This would help me greatly! Thanks!

Heather

Re: University Project
In the USA we get wet and cold so I suggest you design your pack to include a waterproof container for wet things that perhaps also contains spare gloves and sox. We can also purchase themal packs that get hot and stay hot a few hours when removed from its packaging ...I suggest a pouch or pocket for these if you can get them...a pocket for your Ipod and cell phone. Keys are also lost easily so a key ring teather is suggested. In the USA we also have goggle cleaning or wiping cloths teathered to our jackets and packs. Tools are also very important to snowboarders as binding loosten all to easily...a compartment for a screwdriver and adjustable wrench would be handy. I find a need to keep informed so a waterproof pouch for maps, instructions, tickets etc would be handy goodluck on yer project jeff

Couple of things - 1. No matter what features you include, ensure it is as low profile as possible.  Riding the lifts with a fat pack is a pain.  2.  If you include a bladder (like CamelBak) ensure the drinking tube is insulated to reduce freezing.  3.  A pocket that you could reach under either arm to store a energy bar that you could access while wearing the pack would be great.  Good luck!
